Periodontics
Periodontics is the branch of dentistry that specializes exclusively in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of periodontal (gum) disease and the supporting structures of the teeth. Periodontists, or “gum specialists”, perform procedures like dental implant placement, cosmetic gum grafting, and bone regenerations focusing on the health of your gums and jawbone — the tissues that support your smile. After going to a four-year dental school, they receive at least three additional years of specialized focused training in periodontics and dental implant surgery.
